I learned about SIMC on a Southwest Flight four years ago and at the time not in very good health. I was overweight cholesterol levels over 300mg/dl, high blood pressure and sleepless. I was quite loyal to a physician that always prescribed many different medications for many symptoms, asthma, pain, depression, frequent antibiotic rounds. They would work for a short while and I later discovered they were actually suppressing the symptoms not healing me. In 2004 I suffered from three bouts of bronchitis which two of them became pneumonia. I never fully recovered from that year.

After that about every six months I would feel a general malaise which was always met with take a week worth of antibiotics and some steroids and be ok for a few more months and then crash again. During this time I gained 35 lbs till November of 2007 when I could barely get out bed and required 10-12 hours a day of sleep. I knew something was wrong. After being loyal to my physician for 8 years and his ordering of approx $25,000 of medical tests I could not get him on the phone for almost 2 weeks to discuss after the results were completed. When I did he told me to get physical therapy on my back for 8 weeks. I politely ceased that doctor patient relationship and went to SIMC clinic and asked for a consultation.

Bruce Fong H.M.D. and the entire team at the clinic was a wonderful breath of fresh air and perspective. He took the time to ask me about my history and what my concerns were and blended them together. For over 6 years I most likely had misdiagnosed Lyme disease. Dr. Fong’s diagnosis was spot on and the ensuing treatment protocol was extremely effective over the next several months.
